Fontworks Newsletter | May 2001

The rain has stopped, it finally feels like summer is approaching and to brighten your mood still further we have some tasty typographic titbits for your delectation!

You may remember from our last newsletter that we were expecting to take delivery of our sexy branded furniture; well, the waiting's over and our new groundfloor showroom (soon offering scanner demonstrations) now includes a retro chill-out zone comprising orange and black three piece leather suite in an automotive sty-lee! Like sitting in a classic 50's Chevy, complete with the leather aroma to die for! Maybe next time we'll upload some scratch 'n sniff gifs to tempt you in.

Anyway, to business:

- NEW DIGITALIS RELEASE FROM G-TYPE FOUNDRY
Nick Cooke's G-Type foundry, already home to favourites such as Houschka and Nubian , unleash a gorgeous new crowd pleaser in the shape of Digitalis , a modern rounded typeface which, according to Cooke, "came about as an attempt to simplify characters to their most basic elements whilst keeping elegant letterforms". The naturally quirky design works as a display font but equally well when set in smaller sizes as bodytext.

- A IS FOR AARDVARK! NEW CLUB 21 POSTER AND PDF
Fontworks has just printed a distinctive colour poster to promote Julian Morey's Club 21 foundry. The poster design by Morey uses ASCII illustrations that make up an alphabet of animals (from A to Z) just like the "learn by" books you had as a child. Each ASCII animal is imposed over a unique letterform chosen from one of the Club's 49 fonts. The poster also introduces 4 new stencil designs: Fluxus , Fluxus Outline , Untitled and Untitled Monospaced (Club Stencils Volume 3). The original ASCII illustrations are by the Californian illustrator Joan Stark. Call us (020 7226 4411) for a free poster and download the new PDF:

- TWO NEW FAMILIES FROM DALTON MAAG FOUNDRY
Fontworks are pleased to announce updates to the Dalton Maag collection. New four weight family InterFace is a hybrid which mates Grotesk features with Humanist qualities. The result is a friendly contemporary sans face that has been engineered to break down the type barriers that exist between traditional and new media. This flexibility is achieved through refined design and high quality hinting. Available in TrueType format only this font offers web and multimedia designers excellent alternatives to hinted Microsoft typefaces such as Arial, Verdana etc. Dedica , another 4 weight offering, was conceived with the classic proportions and principles of the Modern style of typefaces in mind. According to the designer, users "will find it a slightly eccentric offspring of such traditional parents with unique letterforms and striding asymmetric serifs".

- TRAVELLING TYPOGRAPHER 4
More fascinating insights and observations from Neil Macmillan. Recent ad. campaigns and printed matter reviewed.

That's all for now. Exciting new Fontworks signings will be announced very soon so stay tuned and don't forget to forward this newsfeed to any friends or colleagues who may be interested in subscribing.
