It's difficult to believe that the Third Edition of Font Bureau's Type Specimens could be such an improvement on the previous, but with such a nucleus of brilliant typophiles contributing it's no surprise really.
Hard bound for the first time, and beautifully printed as before, this production is about thinking designers working for thinking designers and succeeding brilliantly.
Font Bureau President, David Berlow's preface suggests that he and his staff will lead type users on a typographic trip, educating, entertaining and perhaps even astounding. It certainly does all of that for me.
New to the Third Edition are 'fonts in use' pages which expand on the already so useful showings and an informative chapter on numeral availability.
The book was produced by Christian Schwarz, with Cyrus Highsmith and Josh Lynn, using Adobe InDesign 1.5 for composition. Mike Parker researched, wrote, and brilliantly edited the typeface biographies the reading of which is one of the outstanding pleasures this book offers.
Font Bureau Type Specimens Third Edition - as useful, desirable and collectable a specimen book as any I've encountered.
